17 Feb 12: Mixed 3/3 vs Phoenix B, Defeat 2-7
Clare's team snatched two vital points to add to their tally this season losing 2-7 to Phoenix B away, great performance nonetheless. Thanks everyone, well done to Dave and Belinda (1-2), John O and Clare (1-2) and Alex and Muriel (0-3). Captain Clare said "Just a quickie to thank you all for your supreme effort on Friday against Phoenix B. Expecting the usual whitewash, we definitely didn't let them have it all their own way and actually managed to grab a couple of points off them! A number of the games were taken through to 3 and were then very close but sadly, we couldn't quite clinch the all important 3rd game."
29 Jan 12: Mixed 3/3 vs White Horse, Defeat 3-6
On their first outing of a New Year, Clare's 3/3 Mixed team were beaten 3-6 by White Horse. Thanks to Clare and Ade (1-2), Debbie and John H (1-2) and Muriel with Tim (1-2). Captain Clare's comments to follow "...".
2 Nov 11: Mixed 3/3 vs Freshford/St. Georges, Defeat 0-9
Against the strongest club in Mid-Wilts, Clare's 3/3 team enjoyed themselves but had to cope with limited courts and long waits between games to lose 0-9 away to Freshford/St. Georges. The games actually looked a lot closer than the 0-9 defeat suggests with us getting high points on many of the games but alas, it was not meant to be! Many thanks to everyone who played and tried so hard to steal a game: Belinda and Dave (0-3), Ann and Mitt (0-3) and Clare with Grant (0-3). Captain Clare commented "After surviving a near-death experience with Dave at the wheel on the way to the match, we unfortunately then got annihilated by Thrashford! Oh well, onwards and upwards! Let's hope we can get a closer match with Chippenham 23 at home in a couple of weeks."
23 Oct 11: Mixed 3/3 vs Phoenix B, Defeat 1-8
In their second fixture of the 2011 season, Clare's 3/3 team had to make a number of substitutions and were feeling on the back foot, but a 1-8 defeat belies how close it was to a 5-4 victory! Well done to Mitt and Lindsey who managed to defeat Dan and his partner! And also well done to Matt and Ann for taking their top pairing to 3 games and then narrowly missing out on a win. Thanks to Colin and Belinda (0-3), Mitt and Lindsey (1-2) and Matt L and Ann (0-3). Captain Clare said "Thank you all for your valiant efforts against Phoenix B. As a spectator this time the matches were all very exciting and the final score (1-8) really doesn't reflect how tight some of the games were. Even Graham Long, Phoenix Club Chairman, said the same on the opposing side so we should all feel proud of ourselves."
7 Oct 11: Mixed 3/3 vs White Horse, Win! 6-3
Clare's Mixed 3/3 have beaten White Horse on their home turf, setting the bar high for the rest of the season - a brilliant result. Not only did they win their first match but they also won it very convincingly at 6-3! It was a very hard fought away game against White Horse with many of the games going to 19 or even higher! Thanks go to Steve and Debbie (2-1), Duane and Clare (3-0 - that's despite Duane's calf injury giving him a bit of jip again!) and Dave and Belinda (1-2). Captain Clare reported "Wahoo! What a great way to start the new season! Well done Team! A lot of them also went to three games so we certainly got our money's worth this time. For once we can hold our heads up high and go into the next match with renewed confidence. It would be great if we could finish this season somewhere other than bottom! And if we carry on like this evening, anything is possible - thanks everyone."
