30 Mar 12: Doubles C vs Phoenix B, Win! 5-4
Finishing with a win, Frank's C team have taken a strong 5-4 victory over Phoenix B away. Despite a really untimely (and painful) knee injury forcing Frank to withdraw from two if his three matches (gifting Phoenix B 2 of their 4 points), his team came away with a convincing win that would surely have been more. 22 Feb 12: Doubles C vs Devizes, Defeat 4-5
Again Frank's C team came incredibly close to securing victory, losing 4-5 to Devizes away. Proof then that Frank's team are starting to gel and really challenge other clubs in division 2. Thanks to John H and Antony (3-0), Frank and Alan (0-3) and Colin with Tim (1-3). Captain Frank said "If we had our normal team out we may have clenched victory, same as our last match against Stonehenge. Antony and John H played well, proven with their 3 points. Thanks team, just one more to go."
14 Feb 12: Doubles C vs Stonghenge, Defeat 4-5
Frank's C team almost upset the rhythm of the top-flight team in division 2, and that's after travelling all the way to Amesbury, losing 4-5 to Stonehenge! Well done Frank's team for an outstanding result regardless - think we'll call that a moral victory. The icing on the cake was all the more sweeter as newcomer Colin Th continues to make a real positive impression - jolly well done - giving hope as regular players were unable to join in. Alex and Tim have formed a great partnership and also chalked up two points. Thanks to David N for stepping up also, we couldn't have done it without you. 5 Feb 12: Doubles C vs Marshfield, Win! 7-2
Frank's C team chalked up an important victory, beating Marshfield 7-2 away. Thanks to John H and Antony (3-0), Frank and Ade (2-1) and Alex with Tim (2-1). Captain Frank commented "Forced 3rd end deciders, but came away with a strong points finish. Thanks team!"
22 Jan 12: Doubles C vs Aero, Win! 9-0
Frank's C team have kicked off the New Year in style, beating Aero 9-0 on home turf. Thanks to John H and Antony (3-0), Frank and Ade (3-0) and Alex with Tim (3-0). Captain Frank commented "Funny old game. We were winning then losing but ultimately triumphed."
18 Dec 11: Doubles C vs Phoenix B, Defeat 2-7
Meeting for the first time this season, Frank's C team lost 2-7 at home to Phoenix B. John H and Antony secured two points with straight 2-0 wins against Phoenix B's 1st and 3rd pair. Ade and Frank endured a marathon first match, forcing a 3rd decider against Phoenix B's third pair and also made Dan and Bobby work for their point by ensuring three would be needed after winning the first game 21-16. Frank's team came close to pinching some more points to add to their season tally so far in addition to their 2 points earned this evening. Thanks to John H and Antony (2-1), Frank and Ade (0-3) and David N with Tim (0-3). Captain Frank commented "Merry Christmas. No hard feelings (you buggers) - we'll get you next time. See you in the New Year. Because I've got a lethal weapon coming at Christmas. It's not about money it's about the winning. It's not about the taking part - its about trouncing the opposition. Which we tried but didn't do tonight."
4 Dec 11: Doubles C vs Stonehenge, Defeat 0-9
Against newcomers Stonehenge, Frank's C team struggled to overcome a powerful opposition, losing 0-9 at home. Stonehenge proved once again they are a force to be reckoned with. Frank's team fought hard but were pleased to get double figures, let alone forcing a 3rd end decider. Thanks to John H and Antony (0-3), Frank and Ade (0-3) and Alex with Tim (0-3). Captain Frank commented "Well, they were a bit good weren't they? Not going to be long in division 2."
6 Nov 11: Doubles C vs Devizes, Defeat 4-5
After a strong start, Frank's team put up a great fight to narrowly miss out on a victory, losing 4-5 at home to Devizes. The opposition were struggling to field their full regular team, but managed to find substitutes and had all three pairs. Frank's Doubles C team was in full swing and can at least chalk this match up to valuable experience. Thanks to John H and Antony (2-1), Frank and Ade (1-2) and Alex with Tim (1-2). Captain Frank commented "A 4-5 defeat does not convey the points we had over Devizes, 353 to their 308. So close, yet so far!"
20 Oct 11: Doubles C vs Marshfield, Win! 5-4
Against last season's Division toppers, Frank's amazing Doubles C team have triumphed coming away with a narrow victory, but a victory nonetheless, defeating Marshfield 5-4! What a great result after narrowly missing out all last season on a win, Frank's team now have chalked up two on the trot - brilliant! Nobody got the better of Marshfield's top pair, but Antony and John H and Tim and Alex beat their other two pairs with Frank and Ade picking up the final and match-deciding point against their opposite numbers. Thanks to John H and Antony (2-1), Frank and Ade (1-2) and Alex with Tim (2-1). Captain Frank commented "Ade and I were very close to taking the point against their 2nd pairing, we just lost out in the 3rd to 19. So close. Tim and Alex did really well relying on youthful energy to overpower their opponents. Another win for our C team!" John H added They had a couple of guys even older than me! Even the B team might be able to get a win :P."
5 Oct 11: Doubles C vs Aero, Win! 8-1
Frank's team win! A great result and a first win on the board for our C team - well done Frank and co! Ade and Frank were the only pair to drop a point, but it was so close to a full house as they faced off their opponent's top pair in the first game. They weren't warm and took them a game to start firing on all cylinders and only lost by a few points. It was very close. Thanks to John H and Antony (3-0), Frank and Ade (2-1) and Alex with Tim (3-0). Captain Frank said "Well, we finally came up against a team that were not better than us! Hence the 8-1 score. We are all very pleased with the result. The venue was very nice!"
25 Sept 11: Doubles C vs Doubles B, Defeat 1-8
The return leg from last week's grudge match against our Doubles B team was again close, Frank's team coming away with one point, losing 1-8. John Hirst and Antony Price wanted their monies worth and took all but their first clash to a 3rd end, winning again against Grant and Matt L. Ade Salako joined the fray with Frank this week and they fought hard but were ultimately edged out by a strong Doubles B team. Alex Gliddon paired up with Tim Bailey and whilst unable to win a point, took Grant and Matt L to (another) 3rd end but were out done by experience. Some good partnerships forming methinks. Thanks to John H and Antony (1-2), Frank and Ade (0-3) and Alex with Tim (0-3). Captain Frank commented "Couldn't match last week's performance. John H and Antony proved they are easily Doubles B team reserves and I was pleased Tim and Alex fought hard and I have high hopes that partnership will yield results!"
18 Sept 11: Doubles C vs Doubles B, Defeat 2-7
And we're off! The first fixture of season pitted Frank's Doubles C team against Grant's Doubles B team, with Frank chalking up his very first point ever for his team, he and his partner, Alex, played well. Alex and Frank fought hard and just got the rub of the green against a somewhat tired Matt Littlechild and captain Grant. Frank's top pairing, John Hirst and Antony Price were in good form scoring the other point, again against Matt and Grant who made them work for every point and pushed them into a 3rd end decider. A warm welcome to David Nightingale and Tim Bailey making their match debut, pushing strongly but ultimately edged out by experience (though it was very close) against Grant's top pair, Mitt and Matt Miflin.
