1 Apr 12: Doubles B vs Devizes, Win! 6-3
In a crucial match where a win would secure 2nd place, Grant's B team put in a solid display to beat Devizes 6-3 at home. Ade stepped up for Matt L and young Tim covered for Matt M, the evening started off with only one tried and tested pair - Chris and John O. Tim and Mitt dispatched Devizes second and third pairs with Chris and John O following suit, only one more point was needed for victory. Devizes top pair were in good form, but whilst Mitt and Tim fought back from 11 down to lose 25-27 they couldn't force a third decider and lost their second to 11. Chris and John O came from 14-18 down in their second game to win 23-21, but were undone in their decider losing to 15. So, it came to Ade and Grant to find the final points and they duly did - forcing a third game decider against both second and third pairs and coming away triumphantly. Thanks to John O and Chris (2-1), Mitt and Tim (2-1) and Grant and Ade (2-1). Captain Grant said "Right, bring on the challenge - Division 1 beckons…" For previous results, visit the Doubles B section.
30 Mar 12: Doubles C vs Phoenix B, Win! 5-4
Finishing with a win, Frank's C team have taken a strong 5-4 victory over Phoenix B away. Despite a really untimely (and painful) knee injury forcing Frank to withdraw from two if his three matches (gifting Phoenix B 2 of their 4 points), his team came away with a convincing win that would surely have been more. Thanks to John H and Antony (2-1), Colin Th and Tim (3-0) and Frank with Ade (0-3). Captain Frank's comments coming soon "…" For previous results, visit the Doubles C section.
9 Mar 12: Doubles A vs Freshford, Defeat, 0-9
In their final match of the season, a re-arranged fixture, Steve's A team were beaten 0-9 by Freshford away. Thanks to Steve and Dave (0-3), Bill and Colin (0-3) and Matt L with Frank (0-3). Captain Steve added "Our season rather fizzled out with a second annihilation in four days. With more rotations than a propeller, A team selection was becoming as tricky as 1st division opposition with Matt and Frank joining the ranks for a change and credit must go to Colin and Bill for nicking an end. However, Freshford were really motivated to grasp maximum points giving us no quarter as they strive for yet another title, but perhaps acknowledging afterwards that the other teams in the division are catching them up. Meanwhile our own ambitions had already been accomplished before this match with another creditable campaign throughout the season: thank you to everyone who participated." 25 Mar 12: Doubles A vs Chippenham 23, Defeat 0-9
With Chippenham 23 out in force and looking to secure top place in Division 1, they defeated Steve's A team 0-9 at home. Well at least they don't have to play them every week! No team had beaten the A team 9-0 at home for a few years now so this hurt a little given the standards Steve and company have strived for. Thanks to Steve and Dave (3-0), Bill and Colin Th (0-3) and Grant and Matt H (0-3). Captain Steve commented "Calling reinforcements...calling reinforcements! Tonight we got walloped in our own (rather hot) shed by these formidable opponents, Chippenham 23. We put in some solid resistance where we could but were out-muscled by this powerful team and it seems pointless to try and rationalise it beyond that. At least they could not match us for the age range in our team, with young Matthew Hughes making his debut for Corsham seniors and Bill still going strong despite half a century in between. Who knows Matthew, perhaps we have seen a future successor to the role of A Team captain...?" For previous results, visit the Doubles A section.
25 Mar 12: Mixed 3/3 vs Phoenix A, Defeat 0-9
With a big ask for their final match of the season, Clare's 3/3 team were beaten 0-9 away. Sadly they didn’t manage to finish the year off with a win as they'd managed at the start of the season, but Clare said "I suppose we couldn’t expect to win more than one match per year!" Well done to Mitt and Muriel (0-3), Colin Thomas and Belinda (0-3) and Ade with Clare (0-3). Captain Clare added "Just wanted to say thank you for turning out last night for the match against Phoenix A. We put up a good fight anyway, although I must apologise to Ade for my poor attempts at playing! Believe it or not, I was trying very hard but I seemed to be in the wrong place all the time! I was either too far away to get the shuttlecock or in the direct line of fire, resulting in 4 direct hits, 3 of them on my face or head! I now have the war wounds to show for them!" 18 Mar 12: Mixed 4/2 vs White Horse B, Win! Forfeit
